Terragon alternative: Aiola

Aiola puts errors, feedback, GitHub and analytics next to coding agents on macOS and Windows. Terragon: a hosted agent service that has shut down.

The short answer

Aiola keeps GitHub, production errors, feedback and analytics next to agents, with local Automations for recurring investigations and fixes. Terragon’s hosted service shut down on February 9, 2026. Its Apache-2.0 source snapshot remains available without promised maintenance or support. Evaluate a hosted runner when jobs must run without your desktop.

Which one fits

When Aiola is the better choice and when Terragon is.

Choose Aiola when…

  • Keep reports beside coding agents. Hosted features require Pro or a trial.

  • Use Tasks, Notebook, Automations and Central across projects.

  • Manage repositories with threads, persistent terminals, optional worktrees and your own provider access.

  • You want one desktop app for macOS and Windows with a phone companion available on the iPhone App Store and Android Google Play.

Choose Terragon when…

  • You need the official shutdown notice for an existing account.

  • You are checking legacy migration information before choosing another tool.

  • You are documenting a previous Terragon workflow; it is not a new-service recommendation.

A working day with Aiola and Terragon

Replacing a hosted background agent starts with the execution requirements, not the app interface. List what each job needs: repository access, a branch, environment variables, credentials, and a prompt. Include a way to review the result. Separate jobs that can run on your desktop from jobs that require an always-available hosted environment. Aiola’s local scheduling fits the first group; it does not promise a replacement for an entire hosted control plane.

Recreate one GitHub issue-triage task interactively in Aiola before scheduling it. Add the repository, authenticate a supported CLI, supply review criteria, and choose Local or Worktree execution. After checking the result, create an Automation and review its run history. An analytics summary can also run on a schedule with Analytics and hosted MCP access (Pro/trial). Worktrees separate files, but recurring jobs can still produce conflicts or need human decisions.

Coding jobs execute locally using your installed CLIs and provider access. The desktop must be available. Account services and optional hosted Analytics, App Logs, Feedback, hosted MCP, and Setup Health are separate; hosted features require Pro/trial.

When a hosted runner is the better fit

There is no current Terragon hosted service to recommend for new work. Its official site links a shutdown notice and an Apache-2.0 source snapshot. Snapshot features describe legacy software, not an active hosted service. The useful question is whether the hosted execution model you previously needed is still a requirement. If it is, another hosted service may fit better than moving the workload to a desktop app.

Local execution changes the dependencies rather than guaranteeing permanent availability. Your machine, installed CLIs, provider accounts, credentials, and repository environment still need to work. GUI Lifetime gives access to the local GUI under its terms. It is not a guarantee of future provider compatibility or hosted services. The reviewed facts establish the February 9, 2026 shutdown date, but not funding or the cause of closure. None is used to argue for Aiola.

Moving from Terragon: setup and first task

Use the official shutdown notice to check any guidance for an existing account. Preserve task definitions, repository references, and credentials you can still access through your own records. This page does not promise a working export or direct import from Terragon. Use a recurring issue summary as the first Automation, with a Notebook checklist for reviewing failures and follow-up tasks.

Choose one low-risk job, recreate its environment locally, and run it manually in Aiola. Inspect the output, run tests, and establish how you will handle failures before enabling a schedule. Confirm the desktop will be available when needed. Keep jobs requiring hosted infrastructure in a separate evaluation, and account for provider usage independently of the desktop license.

What local execution and hosted access mean

Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Grok CLI, OpenCode, Antigravity are the six supported CLIs. Bring your own Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor, xAI, Google, or configured OpenCode access. Aiola never resells models or adds token markup. Provider limits and permissions still apply. Review generated code before using it.

Per-thread Local or Worktree choice; worktrees isolate working files, not merge conflicts. Agent instructions and memory are scoped to each workspace. Automations run locally while Aiola is running and the desktop is on and awake. Start with a manual run, check the result, and schedule only work you know how to review. Parallel agents still need clear task boundaries and an integration check.

Your repositories, threads, tasks, notes, and automation definitions stay local. Prompts and file context go to the provider you choose. Account, billing, diagnostics, optional telemetry and push delivery use services. Optional hosted product data also goes to Aiola’s infrastructure. Local-first describes the coding workspace, rather than every data flow in the product.

Hosted Analytics, App Logs, Feedback, hosted MCP, and Setup Health require Pro/trial. Hosted features need Pro or the 7-day trial on Pro Monthly. Compare Pro and GUI Lifetime before choosing a plan.

Aiola desktop supports macOS 12+ on Apple Silicon and Intel, and Windows 10+ (64-bit). Android is live on Google Play. Aiola for iPhone is available on the App Store. Phone access does not turn a local desktop job into an always-on hosted worker.

Sources and verification limits

This comparison is published by Aiola. The tables preserve the original comparison topics. Prices, platforms and availability were checked against the linked official sources. “Not verified” cells are open questions for your setup. They do not establish that a competitor lacks a feature. No hands-on performance ranking is implied.

We checked the official sources on 2026-10-27. “Not verified” means those sources did not establish the answer; the feature may still exist. A documented download or source build establishes availability. We did not install every product or assess future maintenance.

Terragon’s hosted service shut down on February 9, 2026; subscriptions were canceled. Features describe the Apache-2.0 source snapshot, which disclaims maintenance, support, and completeness.
